Tom’s Adventure to China is the first Chapter in the Tom’s Adventure series, a project exploring art, culture, and storytelling through the playful character Tom.
In 2019, artist Blayze Buseth traveled to Jingdezhen, China, known as the porcelain capital of the world, to participate in an international artist residency at The Pottery Workshop. Surrounded by centuries of ceramic tradition, this experience became the inspiration for the first Tom adventure.
During the residency, Tom explored local festivals, learned lessons from master artisans, and discovered artifacts in Jingdezhen. These experiences inspired a series of 10 illustrations, ceramic works, and a story that celebrates porcelain, curiosity, and cultural exchange.
This journey became the beginning of the Tom’s Adventure project.
